ISRO aiming at world record.

It promises to be an Indian space mission which will rocket instantly into global history books. If all goes well, on January 15, 2017, Isro will launch 82 foreign satellites in a daring single shot, Subbiah Arunan, the project director of Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), has said.Arunan, who was in Mumbai to attend the Brand India Summit 2016, said on Thursday that of the 82 satellites, 60 belong to the US, 20 are from Europe and two are UK-made.
The record for launching the highest numbers of satellites in one go is currently held by Russia, which launched 37 satellites on June 19, 2014. The US had placed 29 satellites in orbit using the Orbital Sciences-built Minotaur-1 rocket on November 19, 2013. On June 22, 2016, India launched 20 satellites in one go. If the mission in January succeeds, India will once again break a global space record — for the second time in about two-and-a-half years. On September 24, 2014, in a record-breaking feat, India entered the Martian orbit in the very first attempt, garnering international acclaim.
The rocket for Isro's historic mission will be the advanced version of the proven four-stage Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) designated PSLV-XL. All 82 satellites will be placed in a 580-km polar sun synchronous orbit in a span of 20-25 minutes after launch. Arunan told TOI that MOM was the first Indian satellite which is being analysed by international space agencies and management schools to pave the way for low-cost access to deep space. He added that the second mission to Mars — MOM-2 — is provisionally slated for launch in 2020.
"We plan to use the aero braking method to approach Mars and go close to the surface," Arunan said, pointing out that it will not be a landing mission. "We have, so far, received nearly 40 proposals for carrying out Mars-related science experiments and the response is very encouraging," he said. Arunan also said that the second lunar mission, Chandrayaan-2, will land on the moon by December 2018. "The ground tests have already started," he said.

Donald Trump: India growing at 8%, why US is not?

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday criticised outgoing President Barack Obama for leading a slow economic growth, arguing that if a "large country" like India can grow at eight per cent, why the US is not.
Trump's remarks at an election rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, came hours after latest figures showed the American economy grew 2.9 per cent in the third quarter this year.
The outspoken billionaire from New York said Obama is the first American president under whom the economic growth rate of the US has not crossed three per cent in any of the years.
Trump said he is being told that the US cannot grow faster as it is a big country.
"Well, India is a large larger country. It is a growing at 8 per cent," Trump said, asking his audience if India can grow at such a high rate, why the US is not.
Similarly, he said, China is growing between six and seven per cent.
"If they (India, China) grow at two-three per cent, this would be considered disastrous by them, he said.

Leadership Lessons from M.S.Dhoni.

It's about an ordirnary man who went on to do extraordinary things owing to his sheer grit and “intelligent” daredevilry. And, as they say that fortune favours the brave, luck, too has been on his side.

You don't need to be a cricket fan to take stock of his leadership skills. True, that Team India lost humiliatingly in the test and one-day series against England but this does not place his leadership skills under scrutiny. His rare quality of extracting benefits from criticism had made India win matches and he himself won the hearts of millions of people. Managers and entrepreneurs can learn so much from him and then apply it to their real life situations.
Here's a rundown of MS Dhoni's leadership style:

On Leading from the Front

Dhoni is one those few captains in sports who have always led from the front, more so, in a situation of crisis. Dhoni has proved to be a leader who leads by example. The man has depicted remarkable equilibrium in many over-heated situations. His teammates are often heard saying that he knows how to remain cool and how to inspire others to remain so. Even senior players like Sachin and Dravid are all praise for him. During Sourav ganguly's farewell test match, he asked him to captain the team for some time. This was a great gesture which established Dhoni's leadership and humane qualities.
Entrepreneurs and managers can learn a lot from the 'Captain Cool' of the Indian cricket team. It's very important for them to lead by setting examples.

On Motivation

When it comes to motivation, Dhoni is the best captain India has ever produced. This behaviour was depicted very well by him during the semi-final match against Pakistan in the recently concluded World Cup. Amidst all the frenzy and hoopla which was built around the big game and the kind of pressure the players were under, even a small mistake could have cost them the match and the Cup. Dhoni motivated them and encouraged them to play naturally but give their 100% at the same time. And, we all know the result of the game.
Dhoni motivates his team well during all cricketing sessions. Entrepreneurs and managers too need to keep the morale of their employees high, not just during a crisis situation but in all their day-to-day activities.

On Seeing What Others Miss and Taking Risks

Whether it is tampering with the batting order or choosing the bowlers, many of Dhoni's decisions have been under scrutiny. But on most occasions, his spot decisions have paid-off very well. Dhoni uses his best discretion to weigh a situation real time. This is not to encourage entrepreneurs and managers to take random risks but at the same time they need to read between the lines and see what others may have missed. A manager/entrepreneur can't afford to be not daring.

On Accepting Mistakes

There have been instances when his decisions have backfired. Dhoni has always been graceful enough to accept his follies and doesn't pass the buck to his other teammates. This has helped to build him the required trust within the team and mutual trust betters the performance. Like cricket, running a business too is a team effort. Mutual trust between the team members is of paramount importance and it's the leader's responsibility to build that.

On Criticism

Overall, Dhoni has been lucky enough to have drawn considerably less flak as compared to other Indian cricket captains. But he does have a fair share of criticism. Many times, his decisions like shuffling the batting order abruptly or giving the over to someone unexpectedly. Mostly, his decisions pay off well and he is not let down by them. It's actually the critics who are made to eat the humble pie. If in case, his decisions boomerang, he is humble enough to candidly admit his mistakes. His handling of criticism is in great sync with his persona of 'Captain Cool.'
Entrepreneurs and managers are bound to attract criticism throughout their endeavours. Learning from Dhoni, they should not be deterred unnecessarily and let criticism make them go off the track. Criticism, in fact, can be healthy, if taken in the right way and right spirit.

Apple's iPhone sales in India surged more than 50%.

Apple's iPhone sales in India surged more than 50% in the year ended September, among the few bright spots for the smartphone maker that reported its first annual sales and profit decline in 15 years.

"Our iPhone sales in India were up over 50% in fiscal 2016 compared to the prior year and we believe we're just beginning to scratch the surface of this large and growing market opportunity," Apple CEO Tim Cook said during an earnings call. Cook said India could be as big a market as China and would be crucial for the smartphone maker.

Apple shipped a record 2.5 million iPhones in India from October 2015 to September 2016, up 56% on year, according to an estimate by Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Apple is poised to replace Samsung Electronics as No. 1 in the premium segment in the current quarter on strong demand for the new iPhone 7 following the South Korean company's Galaxy Note 7 debacle. In the just-ended quarter, Apple's revenue from Greater China fell 30% on year and declined 7% in the Americas — among its biggest markets.
For the year ended September, profit declined to $45.7 billion from $53.4 billion and net sales fell to $215.6 billion from $233.7 billion. Cook cited India's population and expected demand for 4G devices with the rollout of networks offering faster data speeds as reasons for his optimism.
Cook, who made his maiden trip to India as Apple CEO in May, told analysts it was important to look at the size of the middle class over the next decade, besides the age of the population — almost 50% of which is under 25 — and not just per capita income.
"There's going to be a lot of people in the middle class that will want a smartphone and I think we can compete well for some percentage of those. And given our starting point, even though we've been growing a lot, there is a lot of headroom there in our mind and so we are working very hard to realise that opportunity," he added.

Cook pointed to Apple's partnership with Reliance Jio Infocomm as an indicator that 4G proliferation holds huge promise for the company as global smartphone sales slow. IDC expects growth in global handset shipments to shrink to 1.6% this year from 10% in 2015.
"We're partnering with them to ensure great iPhone performance on their network," he said. The CEO of a leading Indian retail chain said sales of the iPhone 7, launched on October 7, have been very good so far.
"Whatever is coming in is selling out, there's more demand than supply," he said. Apple has acknowledged supply constraints, especially for its larger screen iPhone 7 Plus.
Following the Galaxy Note 7 debacle for Samsung, Apple is expected to become the country's top smartphone maker in the premium segment — devices costing upwards of .`30,000 — in the quarter ending December, said analysts, yet another high for the company to the end the year with.

LinkedIn India Plans To Create Opportunities Where Getting A Degree From IIT Shouldn't Matter At All.

Whether you are a fresher, a recruiter or a working professional with a good amount of experience; LinkedIn is one platform that almost every individual is aware of and has taken help from at least once in their career. After all, it isn’t called the world’s largest professional network for nothing. Since LinkedIn paved its way in India in the year 2009, the company has grown remarkably here, making it the second largest market outside the US. It seems that even LinkedIn understands the potential of the Indian market and is trying to push for larger growth by introducing interesting initiatives.
Discussing the budding opportunities in India, Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn India head and Chief Product Officer, said in an exclusive interview with Quartz, “we wanted to figure out a way to level the playing field and provide a democratized opportunity in a way where it shouldn’t matter if you went to the IITs or you went to some college that nobody’s heard of.” Well, we couldn’t agree more since in India, even today, a lot of students are concerned about the college name more than they are focused on the course they want to enroll in. Akshay further added, “What we also noticed was that in most colleges there were at least a couple of people who were quite brilliant. They were self-learned, and, regardless of the college and the location, they had figured out a way to be strong in their fields.”
Akshay further emphasized on the fact that India produces nearly 8 to 10 million graduates every year with 1.5 million being engineers alone, but out of those, there are many who aren’t aware of the job opportunities available in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Bengaluru, especially the ones who are in tier II and III towns. What's more, there are several companies who don’t go to these places to hire and hand pick students. They only do so from a few “elite”colleges. So, LinkedIn is kind of trying to become a catalyst for those intelligent students who might be missing out on great opportunities.
When asked about the ever growing competition coming from other job portals, Akshay stated that they don’t call themselves a job hub; they are rather here to help individuals find the best opportunity and hone the skills of the employees. Considering India is a strategic point and one of the fastest growing markets, LinkedIn launched three major products in September – a job platform for fresh engineering graduates, a service pack for startups and a ‘lite’ version of its website that can work even on slow internet speed.
